Helpful Moving Tips

Since we're moving early next week (closing today!), I thought I would share some helpful moving tips!  Maybe I should have waited until after the move, but hopefully everything will go smoothly!

{one} Before you move: Recruit friends and family to start collecting boxes for you before your move!  You will most likely need more boxes than you think and nobody wants to spend money on boxes!  Also start donating or selling items that you won't use at your new house.  This will cut down on the stuff you need to pack/move/unpack and it will also reduce clutter at your new house!  I made quite a bit of cash selling stuff on our local Buy/Sell/Trade Facebook page!

{two} Even though I just said nobody wants to spend money on boxes, spend money on a just few boxes!  :)  I bought some special "glass pack" boxes for our crystal and everyday glass drinkware as well as a "dish saver" box for our china, and a wardrobe box for my dresses.  The special glass boxes came with foam wrapping to protect our crystal and china which is worth it to me!  Plus we can save the box for storage or pass it on to a friend when they move!  I also bought a small wardrobe box for my dresses.  I folded the majority of my clothes and put them in boxes but I really didn't want my dresses to get all wrinkled!

{three} Pack an overnight bag with some daily essentials for the next day.  After all of the moving, you probably won't want to dig through boxes to find the things you need to get ready, or even food to eat.  Packing a light bag with some things to get you through the next morning/afternoon will help you feel less flustered!  (Especially if you have kids!)

{four} If you are taking any furniture apart, keep the small parts in a labeled baggie.  This will make it so much easier when you go to put the furniture back together at your new house!  Make sure to label the baggies!  Keep all of the baggies together or (if possible), tape them to the furniture pieces they belong to!

{five} Don't move while pregnant!  Haha, this wasn't really possible for us.  We wanted to get closer to Nick's work and we figured moving with one child would be easier than moving with two.  (Which I still think is true!)  The only problem with moving while pregnant is that I get SO tired and I'm not supposed to lift heavy things (especially since apparently I'm already progressing...).  I also have wanted to nest for months and haven't been able to do much!

Sweets for your Sweetie!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's a little flashback from last year:

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG

Today I'm sharing 5 fun and easy Valentine's treat ideas.  These treats are super simple and easy to make for your sweetie!

{one} Red Velvet Puppy Chow.  Need I say more?!  Find the recipe here.

{two} Valentine pretzel "buttons" with Hershey Hugs or Dove chocolates.  YUM!
**To make: Preheat oven to 175 degrees.  Arrange pretzels on baking sheet.  Add a Hug or Dove chocolate to the top of each pretzel.  Pop in the oven for 2-3 minutes until candy is shiny.  Remove from oven and press an M&M on top of each pretzel "button".  Allow to cool.

{three} Valentine M&M cookie bars.  Use my favorite recipe and add in some Valentine colored M&M's.  Festive and delicious!

{four} Whoopie Pies!  I love making these because they are so simple and SO delicious.  I love red velvet with a fluffy white filling.  Another idea is to do chocolate with a pink filling (could be strawberry or just white icing with food coloring).
**To make: Use this simple recipe for cake mix cookies.  Allow cookies to completely cool.  Frost the bottom of one cookie and add another cookie to create the sandwich.  Easy peasy!

{five} Valentine Rice Krispie Treats.  So easy and so addicting.  Find the process here.

What is your favorite dessert to make for your sweetie?
I'm planning on making something red velvet!

My 5 Fav Kitchen Gadgets

I'm linking up to share 5 things on this fabulous Friday!
Today I'm sharing 5 of my favorite kitchen gadgets.  Now that we're getting ready to move, I'm really excited to get some of my things out of "storage" since we don't have to have totally bare counters for showings!  We packed a lot away when we put our house on the market.  A lot of times when I want to use something I'll realize it's packed away or I have to get it back out from a hiding spot (like a shelf in our laundry room)!

Here are 5 things that I couldn't live without in my kitchen.  (Click the links or photos to get more info!)

{one} My stand mixer!  I don't have a fancy Kitchenaid like most of you, but I LOVE my Hamilton Beach!  I asked for a Kitchenaid and my wonderfully frugal husband did a lot of research and found that this mixer had great reviews and was very similar.  I love using it for all of my baking and I've also used it for cooking.  Did you know you can shred chicken in about 2 seconds in your stand mixer?!  Also, mine is black.  :)

{two} My Keurig.  Can you believe I used to have an old school coffee pot with FILTERS?!  Haha!  Seriously though, I love my Keurig for my hot beverages like coffee, mochas, and hot chocolate.  I even use the hot water to make things like oatmeal for Carson!  I also love using the reusable K-Cup because it saves a little money and if you can't find a certain flavor in k-cups, you can make your own!

{three} In case you haven't noticed, I bake a lot of cookies.  I love using my cookie scoop for this!  It's such a simple little gadget, but it saves so much time and it makes your cookies nice and uniform!

{four} I love my Silpat Non-Stick Baking Mat for baking and cooking!  I used to always use parchment paper but now I'm addicted to my Silpat.  I used parchment paper for two reasons: 1.) less cleaning afterwards and 2.) it seemed to help my baked goods from flattening.  I got one Silpat for Christmas from my sister and I am already itching to buy more for my other baking sheets.  Hopefully I can hold off until my birthday!

{five} I really love my silicone steamer for steaming veggies.  I never had a steaming basket before this so I can't compare to metal, but this is so easy to clean and super easy to store!  I went with silicone because I can't stand the sound of metal against metal so I couldn't imagine using a metal steamer basket.  I prefer my veggies steamed and this makes the process quick and easy!

There are other things in my kitchen that I obviously couldn't live without, but these are 5 of my favs.
What are your favorite kitchen gadgets?

TGIF! 5 Things.

{one}
We haven't really celebrated Thanksgiving yet.  Yesterday we went to my father-in-law's but we never really feast there.  Today will be the first real celebration at my mom's house!  So excited!  Check out this Thanksgiving throwback.  I love that little turkey!

I think we have finally chosen a name for Baby2.  I feel like our list was always either a mile long or non-existent.  And of course there were VERY few names we could completely agree upon.  I'm not quite ready to announce but hopefully soon!  I'll give you a clue, it's not Hashtag.  ;)

When I get back from vacation I want to bake, bake, bake!  I have a few recipes that I always save for December and I can't wait to make them!  Buckeyes and Peanut Butter Blossoms, anyone?!  :)

{four}
I tried so hard to convince Nick to put up our tree before we left for Florida but he's a stubborn guy.  I hope he knows it's going up the second we come home.  Nothing can cure the winter blues (especially after leaving sunny Florida) better than a glowing Christmas tree!

I feel like I have so much that I want to do in December I may need to make a December bucket list!  Visit Santa, go to the zoo lights, decorate for Christmas, bake a million cookies, listen to Christmas music, watch a holiday movie or five....so much fun!   How cute is this bucket list I found online?!

Happy Friday!

{one}
I can't believe it's almost December and the only Christmas gifts I've purchased are all for Carson!  I have soooo many more people to buy for and I feel so behind!

{two}
In  9 days we will be leaving to visit warm and sunny FLORIDA!  We're going on a friend-cation and I can't wait for Carson to have a week-long play date with his friend, Hallie!  Here's a picture of our last Florida trip together (April 2013):

Thanksgiving is next week and I still don't know what I'm making!  Luckily (sadly) we aren't hosting this year so I'm only making a few dishes but I need to plan it out!  I'm thinking broccoli rice casserole (Nick's grandmother's recipe) and some sort of delicious dessert...or two!

{four}
Today is officially our last day in contract with our current realtor.  I'm very VERY excited to move on to someone who is a little more invested in getting this house sold!  I hate not knowing where we'll be for Christmas!
*Not our house!* {via}

Last year at about this time (late November) we had our family photos taken.  I cannot believe it's already been a year!  Take a look at chunky little 6 month old Carson!  :)
