5k? Check!

If you've seen my Bucket List, you know that one of the things I wanted to do before turning 30 was to run a mile (#9).  I crossed this item off my list back in 2011 (right before getting pregnant!) and I never really had the desire to run again.  UNTIL my friends convinced me to sign up for a color run event!  There was a deal for registration on Living Social so I signed up in February and the race isn't until June.  I knew I would need to train since I'm not a natural runner.  If you've read any of my monthly goals posts, you know that I've been trying to follow the Couch to 5k program.  I'm only on week 3, but week 3 is better than week 0, right?!

Long story short: A friend from my birth month group set up a 5k event to raise awareness of pediatric strokes.  Her son, Jace, had a stroke in utero before he was even born!  The event was held in her home state of Kansas so obviously I couldn't be there to support them in person.  Luckily she allowed people to sign up as virtual participants and I was able to make a donation, get a race shirt, and run the race at home on the same day!

With the help of my adorable running buddy and my coach (aka the hubster), I ran my first ever 5k.  That's 3.1 miles, folks!  In 2011 I was proud to run ONE MILE.  Now I did 3.1!  Granted I did some intervals in there and took some short walking breaks but I never stopped and I finished!
Before....

...After!
